Hello 1st Hunt Juniors and Families!
I hope you're enjoying your summer and getting excited as you prepare for your arrival on campus! Receiving your roommate and hall assignment today probably made everything start to feel very real—and that can come with a whole mix of emotions: excitement, nerves, maybe even some uncertainty. Know that it's completely normal to feel this way!
One of my roles, along with our incredible RLAs (Residential Life Assistants), is to help you get comfortable living at NCSSM. We’re here to support you, answer questions, and help you be successful throughout your time here.
Wherever you are emotionally—today or on move-in day—I hope you’ll come ready to try new things, grow, and take full advantage of everything NCSSM has to offer, both academically and residentially.
Take some time to explore this website. There’s helpful information around every corner! Below, you’ll find additional details to help you plan for your arrival: from room tour videos to the list of approved items, information about me, and more. While this isn’t an exhaustive list of everything you’ll need to know, it’s a great place to start. Don’t worry if you don’t remember it all—there will be plenty of reminders, and we’ll walk you through things step by step.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out! I welcome and encourage your questions, thoughts, and check-ins. I’m here to be a resource. You can contact me by email at lewis@ncssm.edu, call/text (919.416.2814), or you can send a message in the hall Google Space.
Kelley, Garrecyn, Willow, GoJo (also known as Fred and Kitty Kitty) and I look forward to meeting all of you soon!

I wanted to make sure everyone knows what to expect from me in regards to regular hall updates. On the 1st of each month I will post an update to the blog section of the hall google site and send an email alerting you that the update is live. These posts will include recaps of the past month on hall, updates on major hall and campus events, reminders about upcoming events and deadlines, and photos of the student experience on campus.
Be sure to check out the links to the right as they explain what is/is not allowed in the residence halls and provide a list of suggested items. Further below, you'll find my personal suggest items to consider list.
A few years ago, I recorded a quick video of each room on hall. Visit the link above to see your room! Do note it is unlikely the room is set up the same as in the video as the cleaning crew and waxers move furniture around during the summer. See the Important Housing Links above for more information on the do's and don'ts for your room!

1st Hunt is divided into 2 separate areas: Main and Annex. While we operate as one hall and do everything together during the year, you'll need to know which area you are in for move-in purposes.
Room numbers 102-118 are on the main hall and will need to move in with Hunt West on move-in day.
Room numbers 130-134 are in the Annex and will need to move in on Hunt East. (Easiest move in location on campus!)
Be sure to check out the Resource and Forms & Documents tabs for additional information. The Resource tab includes information such as how to get your students mailling address, sign in/out procedures, the clinic, etc. The links to various forms and documents are on that tab for ease of access to needed documents.
After you move in, the first extended weekend will be here before you know it! It begins after classes end on Friday, August 29th. Residence halls close at 5pm, though if your classes end earlier in the day, you are welcome to leave at that time. Anyone not picked up by 5pm will need to take their belongings to the Bryan Lobby to wait for their ride. The extended weekend ends on Monday, September 1st. There are no classes this day and the residence halls open at 12pm. Please do not return to campus prior to noon on the 2nd. Campus is not open and CC's are not on duty (we're enjoying the final moments of our break too!).
My advice? Stay at NCSSM until the 1st extended weekend unless there is something happening at home you absolutely cannot miss. The weekends at NCSSM are a lot of fun as students will head to 9th Street, participate in SAB (Student Activities Board) activities, and just get to know folks. Those who go home during the first weeks before the extended miss out on this time to get to know others and experience life at NCSSM. I highly recommend that you stay on campus, hang out and meet new friends, attend the various events (including the SG Club Fair), and more!
** What your student will be doing on extended weekends!
Be sure to check out the home page of the 1st Hunt website to get the 411 on everything happening at NCSSM. From the 1st Hunt calendar which shows hall events that are happening to the Student Activities calendar which shares all of the campus wide events, there's something for everyone! And don't forget the Academic Calendar, which tells when Extended Weekends occur along with exam dates, and more. To find all 3 calendars, go to firsthunt.ncssm.edu and scroll down!
Mark the date on your calendar to attend Family Day! During the day, you'll have the opportunity to meet your students instructors and learn more about the NCSSM experience.
