Get Involved
Many families come to NCSSM wanting to contribute to their students hall community, which we encourage! Below, you will find information about hall food and birthday celebrations. Also, there will be opportunities to supply items for various hall activities outside of the regularly scheduled weekly events. If you would like to help, we have a place for you on 1st Hunt! Reach out to Sue Anne if you're not sure how to get involved or if you have ideas on ways in which you could support 1st Hunt!
Hall Food
There's something about food that brings a community together and that's no different on 1st Hunt. Hall food occurs during the hall meeting of the 3rd Monday each month (or 2nd of the month during months with breaks). Hall food can be something as simple as snack foods to orders from local restaurants such as Papa John's, Pomodoro's, Chick-Fil-A, Harris Teeter subs (which are surprisingly good!), and more. Multiple families can go in together th provide for the hall. In years past, students especially enjoyed having a meal as it was a treat to look forward to each month.
Monthly Birthday Celebrations
During your students time on campus, we will celebrate all birthday's each month. Locally owned ice cream shop "Pincho Loco" (who's daughter is an NCSSM 2020 alumni), has been a hit with their ice cream cupcakes, ice cream cups, or popsicles! Other options are a cake from Costco (approx. $20), popsicles from Locopops, or anything else you would like to provide!
1st Hunt Food Pantry
This year, I would like to try to add a food pantry on 1st Hunt for residents to use when they need a treat, pick me up snack, or maybe they missed dinner and need something easy to cook to make it through the night. Below are a few things to know:
Located in Annex since Main has the traffic of all Hunt residents going to the laundry room
Students shouldn't make the pantry the only source of food
Friends from other halls should not be eating from the food pantry, 1st Hunt residents only
Families can drop off items at Bryan Desk to be picked up or can order from Amazon or other delivery places. Address: 1st Hunt, C/O Sue Anne Lewis, 1219 Broad Street, Durham, NC 27705
QR Code links to an Amazon Wish List with suggestions, but feel free to ask your student what they like!
Feel free to send items so the pantry will be
stocked for move-in!
